Historical disaster imagery holds significant value, as it not only authentically captures the traces of sediment-related disasters that have occurred across Taiwan but also preserves society's collective memory of these catastrophes. Through digital archiving and public sharing, these images help future generations understand environmental change and disaster impact, allowing them to draw historical lessons and enhance nationwide disaster preparedness. Furthermore, by integrating technologies such as maps, timelines, and image management, these photos transcend static records to become knowledge resources that can be searched, compared, and repurposed, demonstrating diverse value for education, research, and public disaster prevention outreach.

The planning and construction of the Historical Imagery Platform commenced in 2015. The platform currently archives over 97,500 publicly available images and offers retrieval functions based on criteria such as "Disaster Event / Time / Location / Tag."
